Kent Velo Girls (KVG) was the idea of Bee Gregorie, who set about to find some girls to ride with, after finding it difficult to keep up on mixed (mostly male) club rides, Bee was looking for some girls who were interested in getting fitter and faster but also in chatting, drinking the occasional cup of coffee or glass of wine, having some fun – all without testosterone!
One of the philosophies of KVG is that everyone is welcome and no-one will be dropped on rides (being dropped means being left behind). Obviously, riders need to select rides that are appropriate to their skill level and the type of bike that they have, as the club develops we hope to run rides on most days of the week, at the moment they are generally during the school day and Sunday morning , and over the summer we have run a successful course of intermediate rides in the evenings as well.
3 times a year we run introductory courses to help and encourage new people to build the confidence and endurance to join the other club rides. (please email via website for info) We run a Monday Easy Ride, this ride is suitable for All Riders on ANY BIKE. The group will ride at the speed of the slowest rider and there is help at hand to get you using your gears and setting up your bike position etc. any bike in good working order is suitable. If you are buying a new bike WAIT, contact us - we suggest that you borrow any bike from someone until you are sure what you want to buy. We have a CLUB ROAD BIKE, this is a Claude Butler female specific bike(sponsored by BIKES BIKES BIKES, Sevenoaks,) that is available for club members to use, you can borrow it for a week or a month to have a go and get a feel for Road Bikes.
We run 2 intermediate Road Ride per week, (Wed and Fri am)these are a stepping stone 20+ miles and up to 2 hours. from the Easy Ride to the Sunday Road Ride, they are suitable for Road Bikes only (NO mountain bikes or hybrids).
The Sunday morning Advanced Road Ride is more serious, we leave at 8.30am from the Hilden Park Driving Range in Hildenborough, there is ample parking if you want to drive, the ride is 2-2.5hrs long and rolling with climbs- this is Kent! This bike ride is only suitable for Road Bikes. There is also an intermediate endurance ride(leaves Hilden 8am). This ride is aimed at those who are looking to up their distances, but want to do it at an easier speed. The rides are 2.5-4 hours long. If you are worried about your fitness levels we suggest you come on an intermediate weekday ride first!
